40th Anniversary Season at the Dukes To celebrate its fortieth anniversary, The Dukes in Lancaster is turning its performance space The Round into a pub for its opening production in October of Jim Cartwright's popular two-hander Two and for Hi Vis by Clara Brennan starring Lancaster actress Christine Mackie and raising issues often discussed "down the pub". To complete the illusion, interval and post-show drinks will be served from the bar on stage. While the stage pub is open, there will also be two nights of new short plays in the space at the end of October, and after last orders is called the pub will make way for Roald Dahl's The BFG to take up residence for the Christmas period. Touring shows visiting The Dukes during autumn include the Northern Broadsides take on the Brontës via Chekhov We Are Three Sisters, new black musical comedy Captain Murderer and the Morecambe Mermaid and new takes on Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing and Marlowe's Dr Faustus. Theatre for young audiences includes Charlie and Lola's Best Bestest Play based on Lauren Child's popular children's literary characters and Clive King's children's classic Stig of the Dump.
