Autumn in Dundee

Dundee Rep has announced its programme from September to January.

Futureproof (31 Aug- 10 Sep) by Lynda Radley is the theatre's first co-production with Traverse Theatre Company, directed by Traverse artistic director Dominic Hill. Futureproof follows the once successful touring freak show Riley's Odditorium that no longer pulls in the crowds. In a society obsessed with beauty and normality Riley must find a new way to attract new audiences.

A two year partnership with Royal Lyceum Edinburgh gets underway with Mary Queen of Scots got Her Head Chopped Off (19 Oct - 5 Nov) written by the current national poet Liz Lochhead. This funny and ultimately tragic tale examines the then tensions between Scotland and England, Catholic and Protestant and women and men.

Following on from the successful community tour in 2010 Dundee Rep will again take an Ensemble production out of the Theatre and into the community. Baby Baby (on tour during Oct), deals with teenage pregnancy highlighting the realities of becoming a mum. Director Jemima Levick will tour this production to local secondary schools and community centres across Dundee.

This years Christmas production is the fairytale Cinderella, (29 Nov-31 Dec), directed by Dundee Rep's Artistic Director James Brining.

Scottish Dance Theatre (resident at the theatre) performs Lay Me Down by Kate Weare and Khaos by Ben Levy (15 Nov) and Backstage Pass (16 & 17 Nov), a behind the scenes adventure and close encounters with dance and SDT dancers in the theatre. Under Construction II (22 July & 21 Sep) showcases short works by SDT dancers and other choreographers.

Visiting productions include My Romantic History (5 & 6 Oct) by D C Jackson, a non-rom com about love, libido and lager by Borderline Theatre Company, Rhinestone Mondays (7- 12 Nov) a brand new comedy staring Faye Tozer, Ian 'H' Watkins and Shaun Williamson in a tale of love, life and line dancing, and Breakin' Rules (21 Jan), n from some of Scotland's best hip hop dance crews.

For children Clydebuilt Puppet Theatre present the classic fairytale Peter and the Wolf (10 Sep) and Catherine Wheels Theatre Company present Kes (7 & 8 Oct). Wee Stories Theatre Company perform the award winning family drama Arthur - The Story of a King (15 Oct) an epic story of a king and his exploits, involving magic and magicians in an age where good conquered evil. The season ends with Five Pound & Twa Bairns (12 - 14 Jan) by Scottish playwright Mike Gibb, a new production of the Scottish Musical play telling the story of three women from very different backgrounds united in loss.
