The New Season at Dundee

Dundee Rep Theatre has announcd its new season, during the course of which it will celebrate 25 years in its current home in Tay Square.

The Ensemble's first production this season is Colin Teevan's new version of Henrik Ibsen's Peer Gynt (24 Sep - 13 Oct): Dominic Hill directs this exhilarating tale of life lived on the edge. With a large cast of twenty-one this new colourful version has a mix of trolls, madmen, dancing girls and live music.

Alison Peebles returns this season to direct April De Angelis' Playhouse Creatures (27 Oct-10 Nov). Performed by Dundee Rep Ensemble's female members, this feisty, hugely entertaining historical drama tells the tale of five women who celebrate the right to take to the stage in the male dominated world of theatre.

The final Dundee Rep Ensemble production this season is 2007's Christmas show, Jack and the Beanstalk (3 Dec - 5 Jan). It is written by Dundee Rep Ensemble member Robert Paterson. Members of Dundee Rep Ensemble also continue to give their popular Saturday morning storytelling sessions for youngsters, Telling Tales.

Also included in this season is Scottish Dance Theatre (13-15 September) with two world premieres. New Work by award-winning choreographer Liv Lorent and Resonance by SDT's Michal Zahora ensures a special evening of original, breathtaking dance theatre. The Convent by Jo Strømgren Kompani (17 October) is a place where keeping track of the holy truth is always a hard assignment in this luxuriously dark, and absurdist humorous performance. Dance continues with The Great Big Dance Show (18 October), showcasing dancers from around Dundee. Two dance companies David Hughes Dance and Company Chordelia come together for an inspirational evening with Dance Dinner Dance (1 Feb), fantastic dance with food served between performances providing an exhilarating and tasty night.

The Boy Friend (16 - 18 August) will be performed by a youth group born out of the Dundee Schools Music Theatre. Rep Creative Learning, Adult Group, will showcase some of the best local talent in Rep Creative Voices (31 August) and Our Place, Your Story! (1 September) is bite size theatre for children's first adventures at the Rep.

Award-winning Catherine Wheels Theatre Company perform Cyrano (19 - 20 October)and Headlong Theatre brings a ground-breaking adaptation of Faustus (13 - 17 November) to the Rep with a five star thought-provoking show. This reworking of Marlowe's masterpiece is intertwined with a series of scenes concerning Brit-art provocateurs, The Chapman Brothers.

The New Year sees a collaboration between Dundee Rep's Youth Theatre Company and members of the Ensemble when they present The Children by Edward Bond (17 - 19 Jan), a gripping tale exploring the rites of passage. Scotland's best improvisational comedy show, Dance Monkey Boy, Dance! (22 - 26 Jan) is a late night comedy and Puppet Animation Scotland with Projector Film Festival present Manipulate (22 - 26 January) a new international five day festival has exciting animation and puppet theatre for adults. The festival includes performances, masterclasses and workshops. Highlights include The Seed Carriers by Steven Mottram and Compangnie Mossoux-Bonte from Belgium brings Light! Finally the hit comedy Mum's the Word returns (5-9 February).

Two new ticket schemes have be introduced for drama and dance performances, a £4 Young Persons ticket (for under 26's and full-time students) and a £2 Stand-by ticket (for unemployed from 3 hours before the performance)

This season the Rep celebrates 25 years in its current home, Tay Square, with a gala performance for invited guests on Saturday 11 August. A gala exhibition will open Saturday 11 August in the newly renamed Rep Theatre Café.

Dundee Rep will be closed for refurbishment for three weeks from 16 July, opening again on Monday 6 August. The theatre will be closed to the public but tickets for the new season can be purchased by telephone or online during this time.
