Dateline: 18th November, 2005
The refurbishment of the Eden Court Theatre in Inverness will finish later than originally planned, and later than the delay already announced, according to the Scotsman. The £19.3m project was originally due to be completed by Christmas 2006 and then was put back to spring 2007. This week it was announced that it will not be ready until summer 2007, and the theatre's chair, Douglas Yule, warned, "We are doing this for the benefit of Inverness and the Highlands for the next thirty years and it's that timescale we should have in mind, not 2007." 2007 is the Highland Year of Culture and it was hoped that the refurbished theatre would be able to play a major part in the celebrations. However, as Yule points out, "We started this before the Year of Culture was thought of." The refurbishment will add a 270-seat theatre alongside the existing 800-seat auditorium, two new cinemas seating 240 people, two drama studios, new dressing-rooms and will also upgrade the bars and restaurant. Funding for the refurbishment comes from:
The refurbishment will begin in about two weeks. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
