EdFringe 2003 Preview (3)

Lochhead and Babel at the Assembly
Writer Liz Lochhead and Theatre Babel are to launch a new work at the Assembly. Based on two plays by Sophocles and one by Euripides, Thebans will tell the story of the family of Oedipus. What we want, Lochhead told the Scotsman, "was to tell the story of the curse on the house of Laius, and follow through all the stories."

It is, she went on, "a rollercoaster of plague, war, love and death."

Rehearsals began last week. The larger than usual company will have eleven weeks of rehearsal before opening at the Fringe, and already it is booked at the Riverside Studios, the Citizens, and in Cyprus and Taiwan.

Gagarin's Way Author returns to the Traverse
Paines Plough is to preimere Gagarin Way author Gregory Burke's second play, The Straits, at the Traverse during the Fringe. It will be directed by John Tiffany, who also directed Gagarin Way.

Set in Gibraltar, the new plays deals with four expat teenagers, three boys and a girl, and deals, he says, "with out-dated ideals."

Maran is Mahler
Storyteller/actor Mike Maran, who normally performs at the Valvona & Crolla venue, is taking his new show, Song and Dance Man, to Stage by Stage at the Edinburgh Academy becauise V&C is too small for it.

Ghosts in the Cavern!
The Pleasance Cavern is haunted, the scene of dreadful happenings many years ago, and now paranormal investigators are coming... That's the story behind a new show, Live Ghost Hunt, by Danny Robins and Dan Tetsell.
