Dateline: 3rd August, 2005
Half a Million! Edfringe.com, the Edinburgh Fringes official website, has sold its 500,000th ticket online since the website launched in 2000. The 500,000th ticket was bought by a lady from Edinburgh. She was given invites to the Fringe Opening Party on 7th August and a Fringe Goody bag. Edfringe.com has seen a real growth in box office sales in recent years. In 2000 12,981 tickets were sold online compared to 166,524 last year. Fringe Director Paul Gudgin said, We are really proud of this achievement. We were the first arts organisation to adopt real time online booking, and to have now sold 1/2million tickets through edfringe.com is a significant landmark. Whats particularly encouraging is there appear to more and more people looking to book e-tickets and hopefully our e-ticket tent will be busier than ever this year. The Fringe e-ticket tent opens on Princes Mall on 4th August. The tent offers members of the public the chance to beat the queues and book Fringe tickets online using one of the 40 free-to-access PCs. Fringegoers can also access reviews and check out the latest Fringe gossip free of charge. The e-ticket tent will be open daily from 10am to 9pm and is located on Princes Mall. It will be joined by the Metro Fringe Half-Price Hut, which opens on 9th August. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
