Text Your Fringe Rating

At this year's Edinburgh Fringe you won't have to be a critic to get your opinion about a show heard. The Fringe is launching a text voting service where members of the public can give a rating for the shows that they have seen. By simply texting a star rating to 83010, Fringegoers will be able to share their opinions, with the results posted on the official Fringe website, www.edfringe.com. To register a vote text EVOTE,the show code (which is on the ticket stub) and then 1 2 3 4 or 5 (no. of stars awarded) to 83010. Texts only cost 25p and help support the Fringe.

The initiative provides groups with a new way to market their show to potential ticket buyers. Fringe Director Paul Gudgin said, "Some shows simply do not get reviewed while others can receive bad reviews even though the audience reaction is very good. The Fringe is famous for word of mouth that shows pick up and part of the fun is going around and asking people if they've seen any good shows and exchanging tips. The idea is to stimulate that grapevine. We think this system will help with their own star rating, no matter what the critics are saying"

This scheme is being sponsored by Dates 4U. Andrew Lindenmayer, Marketing Manager for Dates4U said, "We are delighted to sponsor Fringe 2005. Our SMS voting service will let the public text in, giving any show they see up to 5 stars. The stars will be continuously averaged and appear on the official website. It'll be great to see how many shows get 4 or 5 stars from their audience."
