Ubu on eBay

Your chance to win a private performance of Theatre Modo’s acclaimed version of Ubu. The highest bidder on e-bay will get the full performance in a venue of their choice; home, garden, private party or wherever.

The idea came after a member of the audience approached the cast after the show. “They loved the show,” said actor Nick Underwood, “and they wanted us to perform it for a friend’s party. Unfortunately we couldn’t do that night, but we thought it might be a fun idea, and might even raise some funds. After all we’ve already performed in some fairly odd venues.”

The show is offered any evening between 18th – 28th August. The only stipulations are that it is within travelling distance of Edinburgh, and that the show is after 7pm so the cast can recharge and prepare after their afternoon performance. The show will be performed in full, with all the songs, physicality, food fights and excitement of its regular performances.

“We just hope that the highest bidder has got a sense of humour,” added actress Louise Allan. “There’s a lot of playing with the audience, so it is better if you get an audience who are up for it.”

The show is a new translation of Alfred Jarry’s classic tale of greed, corruption and destruction. A sick retelling of Macbeth, the story follows the greedy gluttonous Pa Ubu and his ambitious wife as they stage a coup in ‘bonny Scotchland’ only to come to a messy end. Performed in full cabaret style, the show combines atmospheric songs, a very modern satire, and lots of filth to create an intriguing and exciting show.

For those who want to see what they might get, or who haven’t got the right space, the show performs at the Baby Belly, Niddry Street, every day until 28th August.
