Dateline: 22nd August, 2008 The Allen Wright Awards 2008 The Allen Wright Awards, founded in 1998, were set up to commemorate Allen Wright, a distinguished journalist and arts editor of the Scotsman newspaper for thirty years. During his long career, Wright founded the Fringe First awards and was a strong supporter of young talent, and the awards set up in his name reward theatre journalism at the Fringe by writers under the age pf 30. From what they called "a very strong pool of talent" (ten shortlisted candidates, which included the BTG's Lucy Ribchester) the judges selected two "very impressive" winners. Whilst selected on the basis of one particular article each, the judges were quick to stress that the sample of work that they sent in was very strong overall. The two winners were Yasmin Sulaiman for her feature in Fest Mag on the Penny Dreadfuls, Dreadfully Good, and Junta Sekimori for his review of Fall, also for Fest Mag. They each received a cheque for £750 pounds and a bottle of wine, presented by Fringe director Jon Morgan. On top of that their work will be published next week in the Edinburgh Festivals Daily Guide. The full list of nominees this year was:
