Fringe Company Cancels Because of Accident The Kolomiya Regional Ukrainian Drama Theatre, part of the international theatre programme presented by Universal Arts at Edinburgh Fringe are cancelling all remaining shows at the Festival (14-25 August). The company, who have gained four star reviews for their show Hutsuls Year, have lost a leading actress, who was knocked down by a vehicle. A spokesman for the company said, "We have been deeply traumatised by the accident that resulted in one of our performers being admitted to hospital. Although seriously hurt, she did recover sufficiently to be released but has since been readmitted suffering from further complications. "We are grateful for all the support we have received from Universal Arts in this difficult time. But the company have decided, collectively, that we need to go home and regroup. Despite our difficulties, we have had a great time here in Edinburgh and we hope to come back soon. Audiences have been generous with their applause and were proud to have such positive responses from critics including those from the Herald and Daily Telegraph." Tomek Borkowy, Artistic Director of Universal Arts, said, "Were hugely disappointed that we are losing one of the cornerstones of our international theatre programme half way through the Festival. We have done everything we can to help them with their situation but we understand their decision to end their run early. Its always difficult when a company loses a performer and their style of theatre makes it impossible to replace a performer with someone not brought up in their tradition. "They are a top-class company. We wish them a safe journey home to Kolomiya and hope to work with them again in the future. We will be replacing them in the programme at Universal Arts Theatre with transfers of the big hit shows we have this year at our smaller Hill Street Theatre."
