Music is next with 17%, Musicals & Opera are tied with Dance & Physical Theatre with 5% each. Childrens shows and Event listings are also tied and account for 4% each. Exhibitions make up the final 3%. This year there will be 31,320 performances of 2,088 shows in 247 venues, compared to 31,000 performances of 2,050 shows in 250 venues last year and 28,014 performances of 1,867 shows in 261 venues in 2006. An estimated 18,792 performers will take to the stage, up 166 on last year. In 2007, 1,697,293 tickets were sold, the second consecutive year that sales topped the 1.5m mark. 40% (838) of the shows are World Premieres and from the remaining 60% of the programme, 278 are European premieres and 52 are UK premieres. Performers from 46 different countries will be taking part. 350 shows will be free. The Fringe contributes £75m to the Edinburgh and wider Scottish economy. In the coming weeks the BTG will be previewing the Fringe and taking a look at those shows we'll be particularly looking forward to.
