Paul Gidgin in Korea

Korea Comes to Edinburgh

Four shows from South Korea, including a version of A Midsummer Night's Dream, are to be at this year's Edinburgh Fringe.

The first show from Korea to appear at the Fringe was Cooking (1999) in which sometimes frightening use of cooking implements and comedy mixed to provide a show which was a surprise hit and which has since gone on to Broadway.

Another show due to arrive this year is Jump, which mixes Korean martial arts and comedy, somewhat in the Cooking mould.

In December Fringe director Paul Gudgin visited Seoul at the invitation of the Korean Culture and Arts Foundation ansd spoke to around 200 performers. Now, he says, the interest is so great that the Fringe will be setting up a live video conference for acts which are interested in participating.
