The Fringe at the Netherbow

If you walk down the Royal Mile from the High Street, along Canongate, you come to the Netherbow Theatre on the left. It's not one of the major (or even experimental) venues but it does have some interesting shows for both kids and adults.

  • Tickets for all children's shows £5.00 / £3.50 concessions
    Magic Bob presents Do Try This At Home
    Grande illusion, storytelling, circus skills (?), comedy and audience participation topped off with Magic Bob's famous sleight-of-hand expertise. "Looking for child friendly magic … then Bob's your man" The Scotsman

  • Ian Turbitt's Puppet Theatre: Peter Rabbit
    Peter is 100 this year! So it's time to hear his story again and to go to Mr McGregor's garden. A crafted classic in true tribute to Beatrix Potter and a storytelling delight from Ian Turbitt's Puppet Theatre

  • Wee Stories Theatre for Children: The Hare and the Tortoise
    Aesop's fable retold for 3-7 year olds and everyone else! Brave Tortoise challenges boastful Hare to a race - who will win this famous contest? Hilarious, interactive theatre with songs, rhymes and play. "Nimble imagination" Herald

  • Kenspeckle Puppets: The Little Lost Dragon
    Winter comes to Dragonland but one small dragon ventures forth. With a feast of glitter, music and colour, Sylvia Troon draws young audiences into another magical tale from Kenspeckle Puppets. Child and dragon friendly!

  • Shona Reppe Puppets: Cinderella
    Can Cinderella find a dress, get to the ball, dance the cha cha cha, all before midnight? Bad hair day? Shona Reppe Puppets are a whizz with this brand new adaptation.

Theatre of Scotland

  • Out of Europe - Children of the Holocaust presented by Go 4 It
    The Nazi occupation of Poland and the plight of the persecuted. Written by Rayjond Ross and performed by young artists who "go much deeper". Standard Life Education Award 2001 for CEC community education.

  • Rowan Tree Company: Wandering Willie's Tale adapted from Sir Walter Scott
    A blind fiddler brought up in the great house of Redgauntlet - why? The answer takes us "to the gates of hell - and beyond". Walter Scott's supernatural tale performed by Rowan Tree with John Nicol on pipes and fiddle.
    Wednesday 7th to Saturday 10th and Monday 12th to Saturday 17th August Tickets £6.50/£4.50 concessions
  • Splinters Theatre: Memory Hill
    John Shedden as pioneer photographer David Octavius Hill and Anna Hepburn as Amelia Paton. Painting, politics and love on Calton Hill Scotland in irreversible change. A life in art and theatre of memory created for the DOH 200 Festival.
    Tuesday 13th to Saturday 31st August (except Sunday 18th) at 6.30pm

  • A Matter of Conviction by John Cargill Thompson
    Enter the mind of a Church of Scotland minister convicted for child sex abuse. Probing and unexpected this is John Cargill Thompson's best contemporary work. A profoundly satisfying and disturbing theatre experience performed by Robin Thomson.

  • Tweed Theatre: Till All The Seas Run Dry
    Refreshing, honest, sometimes shocking, Donald Campbell's play explores Robert Burns' life through the eyes of Jean Armour and his other women. Experience the pride and the passion in another winning production from Tweed Theatre.

  • Storytellers Scotland present Scotland in Love Again
    Northern breezes blow Celtic whisperings of mischief. Love, drama and humour in the story, song and harp of internationally acclaimed artistes storyteller David Campbell and harpist/singer Katie Targett-Adams, "only the little white rose of Scotland".
