Fringe Society Consultation

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, which exists to support Fringe performers and venues through promotion, marketing and the sale of tickets, as well as providing information about the Fringe to the public, has embarked on the most widespread consultative process it has ever undertaken as part of a review into modernising its constitution, a commitment given at the last AGM.

A special working group was established to bring forward a constitutional review process and it has now come forward with an ambitious plan for extensive consultation with the Fringe's stakeholders ahead of a new constitution being in place by this time next year.

The first stage of this process is an Online Survey which is open to everyone who wishes to take part. The survey is at edfringerenewal.wordpress.com/ and anyone interested in the Fringe and its future is invited to take part.

The Society intends to progress by:

  • January 2010: The Working Party to hold meetings with stakeholder representatives
  • April 2010: An‘Open Space’ meeting held to discuss consultation.
  • June 2010: Final proposed constitutional amendments published.
  • June 2010: General Meeting held to vote on constitutional amendments.
  • August 2010: AGM held under terms of new constitution.

Elizabeth Smith, the Society's chair, said, "This consultation process is more extensive than anything ever undertaken before by the Fringe Society and almost certainly unique in its scale and ambition for any arts event around the world. I urge everyone with an interest in the future of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to take part and help shape the Fringe for years to come."
