EIF 2004 Ticket Sales Down 20% Ticket sales for the 2004 Edinburgh International Festival dropped by almost 22%, its annual report reveals.Sales of £2,237,000 in 2003 fell by almost half a million pounds to to £1,745,000 in 2004, the report reveals. The actual number of sales held steady, but the average price had fallen, partially due to the innovation of £5 late night concerts, which we aimed at attracting new Festival-goers. However regular attenders switched from the full-price concerts to the cheaper ones. The experiment will not be repeated this year (see our story of 18th February). Also in February the Festival was forced to appeal to Edinburgh City Council and the Scottish Execuive for an an additional £600,000 which was granted. The Hub, the Festival's main centre, also lost money. The loss of £120,000 is explained, the report says, by the fact that it was closed for six weeks for refurbishment during the year and, due to change in the method of accounting, one month's income was dropped from the accounts. Organisers are confident that it will break even in 2005. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
