Equity ACE Survey

In the wake of a bruising few months which has seen Arts Council England forced to back down on some of its plans to cut grants to theatre in the face of unprecedented anger from the theatrical world, Equity has launched a nationwide survey to discover members' views on how the funding system ought to work.

So begins the introduction to a new online survey on the Equity website. It goes on to say that "Equity has renewed its call for fundamental shift in the way ACE operates."

According to an article on The Stage website, 700 people completed the survey in the first three day, 99% of whom were Equity members. 70% rated transparency as poor or very poor, and 68% said ACE’s explanations for funding decisions were also poor or very poor. 86% said that artists should have a say in funding decisions and 77% believe that artists advisory panels should be set up.

Equity will use the survey, which will be online until mid-March, in a report to be presented to Andy Burnham MP, the new Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.
