Evening Standard Awards Winners

The winners of the 2003 Evening Standard Theatre Awards have been announced.

Best actor - Michael Sheen (for Caligula)
Best actress - Sandy McDade (for Iron)
Best play - Democracy by Michael Frayn
The Carlton Television award for best musical - Jerry Springer: The Opera
Sydney Edwards award for best director - Polly Teale (for After Mrs Rochester)
Best stage designer - Christopher Oram (Caligula)
Charles Wintour award for most promising playwright - Kwame Kwei-Armah (for Elmina's Kitchen)
Outstanding newcomer - Tom Hardy (for Blood and In Arabia We'd All Be Kings)
Special Award - Max Stafford-Clark
Patricia Rothermere Award (for someone who has provided exceptional support for young actors) - Lord Attenborough
Patricia Rothermere Scholarship(a three year scholarship for a drama student) - Elif Yesil
