Stars Write Everyman's History

The Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Theatres are delighted to announce the publication of Liverpool's Third Cathedral compiled by Ros Merkin- a major book celebrating the first forty years of the Everyman theatre.

Through a combination of press stories, production photographs, and personal recollections, Liverpool's Third Cathedral tells of the triumphs and tragedies, crises and comebacks which have characterised the Everyman's first four highly eventful decades.

Everyman people - from artistic directors to cleaners, actors to audience members - invoke the plays, the people, the stories and the myths that make the Everyman what it is: a Liverpool original and a national treasure.

Announcing the publication, Executive Director Deborah Aydon, said,"With this book, we have set out not only to document a living history, but to convey the spirit of the Everyman and the powerful spell it can cast. The book is crammed with information, but it goes a long way beyond that: it's insightful, funny, moving, and very much a story told from the inside. This is the final celebration of the theatre's 40th Birthday, and an illustration that life, indeed, is beginning (again) here on the corner of Hope Street."

This unique book has been published with the support of the Liverpool Culture Company, whose Director Jason Harborow commented,"This fascinating and beautifully-produced book is a great opportunity to celebrate one of the jewels in Liverpool's cultural crown and we are proud and delighted to be associated with it."
