Even before opening night, extra dates have been added to Taken at Midnight, a new play by Mark Hayhurst, opening in the Minerva Theatre on 26 September.

This play is the final production in the Hidden Histories season which explores little-known true stories.

Penelope Wilton plays Irmgard, the mother of celebrated lawyer Hans Litten (played by Martin Hutson), who puts Hitler on the witness stand in 1930s Germany with devastating consequences.

Irmgard's relationship with her son and her courageous efforts to help him are at the heart of this brand new play. Hans is famed for the brilliance with which he defends opponents of the Nazi movement. When he calls Hitler as star witness in the trial of a band of murderous Nazi paramilitaries, the politician feels the full force of Litten's intellect, wit and courage.

Two years later, Hans is arrested, held without trial and tortured, leaving his indomitable mother to confront his captor at enormous personal risk.

Chichester's Artistic Director, Jonathan Church, directs, with design by Robert Jones.

Extra dates have been added from 27 October to 1 November at 7:45PM. There will also be matinée performances on 30 October and 1 November at 2:45PM.
