Eyre directs Dear première for Almeida Festival

Almeida FestivalRichard Eyre will return to the Almeida Theatre to direct Nick Dear's new play The Dark Earth and the Light Sky, designed by Bob Crowley, as part of the Almeida Festival 2012.

Inua Ellams kicks off the festival with Knight Watch, a 45-minute site-specific performance produced by Fuel for which Ellams is accompanied by two musicians.

Devised theatre group Inspector Sands will present its third show Mass-Observation, London-based Custom/Practice will present an edited version of A Midsummer Night's Dream, Lost Dog will perform its latest show It Needs Horses / Home for Broken Turns, Greyscale's latest piece will be Gods Are Fallen and All Safety Gone written and directed by Selma Dimitrijevic and New York ensemble the TEAM will perform RoosevElvis.

Young Friends of the Almeida will present performances created in response to the Almeida's 2011-12 season, including Parallax by Rebecca Prichard and The Mini Dream developed through workshops with Custom/Practice.
