Fast Track 2004

The Independent Theatre Council (ITC) , in association with the Society of London Theatre (SOLT) and the Theatrical Management Association (TMA), are once again to launch the positive action programme, Fast Track.

Fast Track 2004 will offer fifteen Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people working at operational and managerial levels in other fields, to try their hands in performing arts management.

The Performing Arts sector has long been attempting to address the under-representation of this section of the community in their workforce. The publication of the Eclipse Report (2001) and the Glass Ceiling Report (2002) provide the background and focus for further action. Fast Track has established itself as one of the most effective initiatives in this field.

Fast Track provides:

  • Fifteen weeks of work experience. Previous participating `Host' organisations have included The Tricycle, Greenwich Young People's Theatre, Shared Experience Theatre, Cameron Macintosh and Really Useful Theatres.
  • 3-day Residential training and preparatory course
  • Nine further 1-Day practical courses covering general management aspects such as Personnel Systems, Marketing, Finance, Fundraising and Contract & Negotiations.
  • Access to "The Next Level": This is ITC's further initiative supporting Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people with their career aspirations through training, mentoring, networking and peer-learning events.

During 2003, thirty graduates were placed across London and the regions of which the overwhelming majority have either found work or strengthened a freelance career.

Anyone interested in further information, in hosting a placement or in participating in the scheme, please contact Carol Sidney at ITC on (020) 7089 6820, check out ITC's website or email her.
