More than 300 young people entered a Royal Shakespeare Company photography competition in which the prize was a commission to take the rehearsal photos for an RSC Shakespeare production in spring 2018.

Sophie Teasdale, 23, from South Shields, has been chosen to take rehearsal photos for Macbeth which features Christopher Eccleston in the title role and Niamh Cusack as Lady Macbeth.

Ellie Merridale, 21, from Milton Keynes, will take the photos for Romeo and Juliet, Sophie Giddens, 24, from Manchester, will look after the touring production of Hamlet and Helen Dickman, 22, from Cambridge, will shoot The Merry Wives of Windsor.

As well as the professional, paid commission, each photographer will be mentored by four of the country’s leading theatre photographers: Richard Davenport, Manuel Harlan, Helen Maybanks and Topher McGrillis.
