ARC Stockton has announced the casting for Gordon Steel’s new play The Fulstow Boys which will run at the venue from 6 to 15 September before transferring to the Custom’s House in South Shields from 24 to 29.

Steel’s own company Steelworks produces the play which answers the questions asked in 2005 by Sky TV and the press, “why doesn’t the small Lincolnshire village of Fulstow have a war memorial, even though men from the village died in both World Wars?”

Simeon Truby returns to the company after appearing in Steel’s last play Grow Up Grandad in 2016. His wide experience in theatre includes the National Theatre’s tour of War Horse, The Merry Wives of Windsor for the RSC, numerous productions (including The Pitmen Painters) at Oldham Coliseum and at Keswick’s Theatre By the Lake, Bolton Octagon, Manchester Royal Exchange, West Yorkshire Playhouse and Salisbury Playhouse.

His TV work includes Emmerdale, The Royal, Coronation Street and A Touch of Frost.

Joining him is Newcastle’s David Nellist. He appeared in the National Theatre’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time at the Apollo Theatre, War Horse at the New London Theatre and Billy Elliot at the Victoria Palace.

His work in the North East includes the 2013 production of Wet House at Live Theatre, and Blue Remembered Hills and Close the Coalhouse Door at Northern Stage. His television appearances include Taboo, BBC’s Sherlock, Holby City, The Bill and many more.

Also in the cast are Katy Federman (frequent appearances with Suffolk Summer Theatres Ltd at Southwold & Aldeburgh), Joshua Hayes (Hollyoaks, Casualty, Doctors and Doctor Who on TV and work with Eastern Angles in theatre), Ash Matthews (a number of series for Netflix, and Agatha Christie’s The ABC Murders for BBC and Amazon) and Laura Mould (The Full Monty UK tour, The Lives and Loves of Vera Dymond for the 24:7 Festival, and Girlfriends and Coronation Street on TV).

Rehearsals start on 13 August and tickets are now on sale at both venues.
