Gala's Future Safe In spite of its having lost £750,000 in the last year, the future of Durham's Gala Theatre is safe, the city council has said. "We have had both luck and good managemetn in the last year," said the council's finance portfolio holder Carol Woods. "We have recievd unexpected receipts from fees and charges and rates refunds and because of this we've been able to meet the unbudgeted costs of the Gala Theatre and increase our reserves. "The cost of the theatre has reduced substantially in the last financial year and so far this year's trading position is positive and within a realistic budget."
