Gately Is Godspell's Jesus Former Boyzone singer Stephen Gately will play Jesus in a tour of Godspell, originated by and previewing at Key Theatre, Peterborough. Originally premiered in 1971, Godspell was written by John-Michael Tebelak and Stephen Schwartz. It features a string of hits including "Day By Day", "Prepare Ye The Way of the Lord" and "By My Side". Boyzone were one of the most successful boybands in history. Gately also starred in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Joseph in the West End and recently appeared on the ITV show Dancing On Ice. The cast of Godspell also includes Paul Ayres, Sharon Cherry Ballard, Tom Bradley, Adrien Daller, Tiffany Graves, Katy-Jo Howman, Yildez Hussain, Lucy Kearans-Hunt and Ryan Malloy. Paul Kerryson, artistic director of Leicester's new Performing Arts Centre, directs. Musical director is Colin Billing, designer Kate Unwin and lighting designer Jenny Kane. Godspell previews at the Key Theatre, Peterborough, from September 11th and tours to Manchester Palace Theatre, Llandudno Venue Cymru, Darlington Civic Theatre, Sunderland Empire, Swansea Grand, Glasgow Theatre Royal and Birmingham Alexandra Theatre until December 1st.
