New at the Gate
Generation Gate, the name given to the 30th birthday celebrations of
Notting Hill's Gate Theatre, brings its celebrations to a close with
two radical new versions of classic works.:

Vanya

Directed by Natalie Abrahami
World Premiere
Playwright Sam Holcroft was educated in Edinburgh and was part of
the Traverse Theatres Young Writers Group. Her credits include
Cockroach (commissioned and co-produced by the National Theatre
of Scotland and Traverse theatre and nominated for Best New Play in
the 2009 Critics' Awards for Theatre in Scotland), Ned and Sharon
(High Tide Festival), and Vogue (Royal Court and Latitude).
She has recently been awarded the prestigious Tom Erhardt Award for
up and coming writers.

The Kreutzer Sonata

World Premiere
Nancy Harris was born and raised in Dublin. Her writing credits include
Girl in a Bath and The Cleanest Way To End It (both
at Soho Theatre), Love in a Glass Jar (Abbey Theatre Dublin),
Little Dolls (Bush). Her writing credits for radio include
Blood in the Bridal Shop (BBC R4). She is currently under commission
to write a full length play for the Abbey Theatre Dublin.
Casting for both will be announced shortly.
Artistic Directors Natalie Abrahami and Carrie Cracknell said, "British
theatre has changed unrecognizably since 1979 when the Gate first opened
its doors. Since that time the Gate has been a springboard for successive
generations of theatre makers. We are delighted to continue in this
spirit by premiering radical new versions of international classics
by two exciting emerging playwrights. We believe these are ones to watch."
