Gawsworth Hall

Gawsworth Hall New Season

Macclesfield's Gawsworth Hall manor house in Cheshire, formerly home to Britain's last professional jester and one of the candidates for the so-called 'dark lady' of Shakespeare's sonnets, has announced the programme for its open air theatre for 2009.

The season is opened in July by British Shakespeare Company with its productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream and Much Ado About Nothing starring Roxanne Pallett of Emmerdale and Dancing On Ice.

Phoenix Opera brings Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance and The AB Players will present a promenade production of Toad of Toad Hall. Local group Wilmslow Green Room Society will present The Three Musketeers, and the season closes in August with Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Baskervilles.

There is also a full programme of comedy – including Mark Watson, Ken Dodd and Pam Ayres – and music – including The Hollies, Andy Prior and his Big Band, Elkie Brooks, Hayley Westenra, The Black Dyke Band and The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain – and 'tribute' acts to Elvis and Abba.

More details can be found at the Gawsworth Hall website.
