Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre has announced a series of live-streamed workshops with some of the country’s leading new writing practitioners “designed to inspire, provoke, challenge and support playwrights to create new work” to submit for the 2015 Bruntwood Playwriting Competition.

Multi-award winning playwright and 2015 Bruntwood Prize judge Bryony Lavery launches this new initiative on January 20 with Getting Started And Creating Theatrical Characters.

This interactive session will be streamed online as it happens and will explore ideas to inspire new writers, suggest questions to ask when starting a new play and provide practical tips on developing a script. The workshop will also examine what makes a theatrical character and ways of taking characters and an audience on a memorable and imaginative journey.

The session will run from 6PM to 8PM and participants can join it online.

Other workshops confirmed are Imagery And Theatricality with Phil Porter (February 17), Dramatic Action with Simon Stephens (March 17) and Dialogue And Subtext with Dawn Walton (April 28).
