Disadvantaged children and young people are to get free tickets for Northampton Royal and Derngate’s Christmas productions.

The theatre’s annual Unforgettable Gift appeal is underway and customers are invited to add a gift-aided donation of £10 when making a Christmas show booking.

Every donation will be matched by Royal and Derngate to provide a free ticket for either The Jungle Book or Aladdin for a number of key performances throughout December.

Clive Ireson, development manager of the Springs Family Centre, one of last year’s recipients, commented, “the kids had a great time! A lot of them had never been to the theatre before or seen a pantomime, so it gave them something really special to remember.”

Royal and Derngate is working with the Northamptonshire Community Foundation and Lamport Hall’s Sir Gyles Isham Trust on the campaign.

The Jungle Book by Jessica Swale and based on Rudyard Kipling’s stories runs on the Royal stage from Tuesday 28 November until Sunday 31 December. Aladdin, which features Paul Nicholas, Union J’s Jaymi Hensley and Three Degrees singer Sheila Ferguson, runs in Derngate from Friday 8 December until Sunday 31 December.
