Remembrance Day at the Globe

For the third year in succession Shakespeare’s Globe will stage a special event for Remembrance Weekend in the theatre to commemorate civilian casualties from conflicts past and present, hosted by Mark Rylance, artistic director of Shakespeare’s Globe.

The programme will include readings and music by Globe actors, musicians and staff. In tribute to civilians who have perished during all conflicts, names of casualties will be read out throughout the afternoon and commemorative candles lit.

Entrance is free but everyone is encouraged to make a donation to either the Royal British Legion or the Peace Pledge Union. To cover the Globe’s expenses, mulled wine, spiced juice and cakes will be on sale.

The afternoon concludes with a walk from Shakespeare’s Globe to the Tibetan Peace Garden at the Imperial War Museum in Lambeth, where a remembrance rope will be laid and a prayer for peace spoken.

The Remembrance Day Event at Shakespeare’s Globe is at 4pm on Sunday 14th November. Entrance is free.
