One-man play Good Timin', written and performed by Ian Mclaughlin, returns to Newcastle's Live Theatre next week after a successful Edinburgh run, following previews at Live in July.

The play is about one man’s journey to find another man—or rather, it’s a two-man show with one man missing and two different endings.

Ian Mclaughlin asks if there’s more than DNA linking him to his missing father? He discovers amazing parallels between their lives and personalities that make him question the very nature of nurture itself.

Part personal testimony, part stand-up and part science, Good Timin’ questions how much we really pass on to our children and how the things we keep from them can have a profound effect on their lives.

Throughout the show, audiences will discover amazing parallels between their lives and personalities that make Ian question the very nature of nurture itself. Fusing together personal testimony, stand-up and science, Good Timin’ will question how much parents really pass on to their children and how the things that are kept from them can have a profound effect on their lives.

"What I discovered," said Mclaughlin, "was that my father and I had very similar life paths including the same careers, the same DVD collections and even the same sense of humour. Hopefully it’s a story that people can resonate with and really relate to, and I hope audiences will come along with me on this emotional rollercoaster ride."

A performer/writer from the north east, he is best known in Newcastle for being founder member of Improv troupe The Suggestibles. His love affair with all things spontaneous started in London in the 90’s where he was part of the Impro Musical, the first Improv show to play the West End, and became his first venture to the Edinburgh festival for a sell-out run at the Gilded Balloon.

He returned to the Gilded Balloon a few years later to sing with Bill Bailey’s comedy punk outfit Beergut 100 and most recently with The Suggestibles at St Stephens in 2012.

Described by Fest Magazine, which gave it four stars, as "an uplifting hour", the show runs at Live from 15 to 25 October.
