Graeae and Suspect Culture Collaborate Graeae and Suspect Culture are to present the world premiere of Static by Dan Rebellato, a story of love, loss and compilation tapes. Graeae is a disabled-led company which works with writers and directors with physical and sensory impairments whilst Scotland-based Suspect Culture creates new performance work in a variety of media; primarily theatre but also visual art and film. Static is a story of a young woman has lost her husband. Discovering a compilation tape that he made but never gave her, she becomes convinced it contains a secret message. What could the tape mean; and is he trying to communicate with her from beyond the grave? Static fuses music, dialogue, sign language and audio description to explore our complex response to love and loss. It is steeped in a love of music from Sonic Youth to The Smiths, The Ramones to The Rakes and from Girls Aloud to the Goodies. It is directed by Graeae's Jenny Sealey and Suspect Culture's Graham Eatough, who says, "Suspect Culture and Graeae coming together to co-produce Static feels like a very natural collaboration. The two companies have formed many connections over the years out of a mutual admiration for each other's work. Perhaps most importantly though, there is a common ground between the two companies in terms of the subject matter that both companies have explored and how they present it. Static continues this exploration of how people communicate and try to make emotional connections with each other in a very direct and powerful way." Static will tour to:
