The Grand in Blackpool has revealed four new shows for its 2017 dance programme including the return of Breakin’ Convention, Britain’s favorite choreographer Matthew Bourne presents Early Adventures, award-winning choreographer Gary Clarke presents Coal and the legendary Mark Murphy presents Out Of This World.
Sadler’s Wells' ground-breaking international festival of hip hop dance theatre and culture, Breakin’ Convention returns earlier than planned. Hosted and curated by Jonzi D, the festival brings a night of dance performances from the best international and UK poppers, lockers, house dancers, b-boys and b-girls.
Out Of This World is action-packed theatre from acclaimed writer and director Mark Murphy, set within a world of projected film and animation.
Matthew Bourne returns to his roots in Early Adventures, a programme of hit pieces that launched his career. With designs by long-time collaborator, Lez Brotherston, it forms part of the company’s 30th anniversary celebrations.
Marking another 30th anniversary, the end of the 1984/85 British Miners' Strike, award-winning choreographer Gary Clarke proudly presents Coal, unearthing the true nature and body wrecking demands of a working class industry now almost forgotten.
Meanwhile the venue is to host two dance shows this November.
James Wilton’s Leviathan is accompanied by a powerful electro-rock soundtrack by Lunatic Soul while Phoenix Dance Theatre is celebrating its 35th anniversary with a Triple Bill showcasing three master dance pieces.
