Anne Comes to Sadler's Wells Anne of Green Gables is Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery's most enduring and much-loved heroine. Novel Theatre will be presenting a new stage adaptation by Emma Reeves, directed by Andrew Loudon, at the Lilian Baylis Theatre, Sadler's Wells from 25th November to 8th January. Matthew (David Baron) and Marilla Cuthbert (Jenny Lee) live and work on their smallholding in a pretty country village but are beginning to feel their age. They decide to employ a boy to help them with the duties on their farm and approach the orphan asylum for suggestions. Due to a misunderstanding, a girl - Anne Shirley (Ruth Gibson) - arrives instead. To leave the orphanage and stay at Green Gables would be a dream come true for the red-haired and fanciful Anne. Eventually, Matthew and Marilla decide she can stay with them but are unprepared for the amazing scrapes that she keeps getting into. She dyes her hair green, accidentally gets her best friend drunk and smashes her slate over the head of the handsomest boy in school The director, Andrew Loudon and adapter Emma Reeves have previously collaborated on the successful production of Little Women which is currently running at London's Duchess Theatre. Andrew Loudon trained as an actor and also studied Creative Writing. He made his directorial debut in 1999 at The Pleasance, Edinburgh, with Little Women and has directed all its subsequent productions. His writing credits include Dangerous Play (The Arts). As an actor he has performed in The Doctor and the Devils (Plymouth Theatre Royal), The Trainer (The Apollo) and has numerous regional theatre and television credits. Emma Reeves' first stage adaptation was Little Women and has various other television and radio writing credits. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
