Zia Trench

Guns and Noses at the King's Head

The Kings Head in Islington has joined up with Zeitgeist Theatre Company to stage a week of new writing every two months. The emphasis is on issue-driven, thought provoking plays that are challenging and question the times we’re living in. Writers work in a team to devise a script. The entire process; from theme to production is eight weeks, aimed at being just long enough to ensure a high standard of writing/production but short enough to ensure these plays are relevant to people's lives and tackle the stories everyone’s talking about.

For January, three short performed plays are on the theme Guns and Noses – plays that look into the escalating problem of drug-taking, street-gangs and gun violence in London. They will run from 22nd to 27th January at 1pm at the Upper Street venue.

Zeitgeist Theatre is run by Zia Trench and Phil Zwiegers.

Zia Trench is a writer and an award-winning political journalist who has worked for BBC, ITN and Sky news as a presenter/reporter. After studying Politics and Philosophy, she took a Masters in Creative/Script Writing and was chosen by Radio 4 as an upcoming fiction writer 'to watch out for'. She has won various fiction and travel writing competitions and has written her first novel on the coca-trade in Bolivia. As a playwright, she exploits a long-running interest in contemporary political issues. She is also a reviewer for the BTG.

Phil Zwiegers is the business brains behind the whole thing; an IT and business consultant who has a long-standing interest in theatre.
