Newcastle's Live Theatre has a week of shows and workshops for teenagers during the coming half term from 25th October to 1st November.

Mixtape, aimed at young people of 11 and older, is a mixture of sketch show and pop quiz. The words of a selection of number one hits from the past two years form the basis of sketches which must be no longer than the songs themselves. Teams have to work out the original songs and bands and compete to win the Golden Mixtape.

Mixtape is on Saturday 25th October at 7pm.

On 26th and 27th at 7.30 UK beat-boxing champion Grace Savage performs her one woman show Blind which explores what young people are hearing in the world today from motherly advice to what we learn in the school playground and the music charts.

Produced by The Paper Birds, "Blind," says Savage, "is about challenging perceptions, exploring identity and just opening our eyes that little bit more....coloured with some serious bass from my face along the way."

Budding writers, performers, directors and theatre makers are also being given the chance to discover how The Paper Birds make theatre in a workshop led by company director, Kylie Walsh on Tuesday 28th October at 4.30pm.

On 31st October and 1st November at 7.30pm in Bird by Laura Lomas audiences will be introduced to fourteen year old Leah Bird as she waits alone in her flat in Derby for her boyfriend to call. Over the course of a single night she tells us what it’s like to be fourteen, fearless and full of love. But everything isn’t what it seems, and as the sun comes up Leah begins to unpick the true nature of her relationship.

This one woman show invites theatregoers to step inside the mind of a teenage girl exploring grief, the deep bond of sisters, teenage friendship, first love – and feelings you can’t control.

On 1st November at 3pm the director of Bird Jane Fallowfield will be delivering a free writing workshop for young people on basic playwriting skills and developing dramatic characters.

Both workshops are suitable for age 15+ and are free but booking is essential as places are limited.

Blind is presented as part of Juice, NewcastleGateshead's festival for children and young people, and Mixtape and Bird are presented as part of this year’s Juice Box Festival.
