Dateline: 9th November, 2003 Hampstead Faces Financial Crisis The new Hampstead Theatre, which opened on 13th February, is facing a financial crisis and has appealed to the Arts Council for an extra £500,000 to see it through the next few years. According to a report in The Times, the first two productions in the new £15.7m theatre (Sunday Father and The Maths Tutor) have lost up to £90,000. According to Whatsonstage.com a spokesperson for the theatre confirmed that the new theatre is proving to be more expensive to run than expected. As well as the main house, which seats up to 325 depending upon the configuration, the new theatre also contains a rehearsal area/studio theatre, which is situated under the main stage, and a cafe-bar.
