The Theatre Royal Haymarket has announced three new Masterclasses for people in the 17-30 age group, plus mature students and late-starters. These masterclasses are free to the target audience, although those over thirty (who are not mature students or late-staretrs) can join the Masterclass Friends scheme. Payment of £20 entitles members to free attendance without paying a deposit, a newsletter and occasional Friends special events.

The new Masterclasses are:

Helen Mirren
Saturday 2 October, 2.30 - 4.30pm
Helen Mirren
Talk and Q&A session

Thursday 7 October 2004, 2.00 - 5.00pm
Drama Schools - What Do They Want?
with Geoffrey Colman, Head of Acting - Central School of Speech and Drama
Geoffrey takes you through the university versus drama school debate, looks at what training offers, how important it is and how it may or may not help with developing a good career. There's also a focus on the audition process, what it entails and what's expected of you.

We will include a workshop on audition speeches, choosing a number of participants to get up on the stage at the Theatre Royal Haymarket and try out their speech. Geoffrey will then work on one or two in detail, giving everyone a chance to see how a director works and what people like him, who choose the candidates for the best drama schools, look for in candidates.

Anyone wanting to put themselves forward for trying out a speech should include a note or email when booking. Send us a copy of your speech and a short biog as well telling us why you're interested in going to drama school.

Sally Ann Triplett

Friday 8 October, 2.00 - 5.00pm
Sally Ann Triplett
Her Masterclass will be very practical and look at how you get the best out of performing a song in a musical. Sally Ann will work with four pre-selected students and together you will all explore and watch what works and how you can really improve your performance.
