Hedwig - Back in the West End

Olivier award-winning David Bedella is to star as Hedwig in the off-Broadway rock musical hit, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, which will run for a strictly limited season of 13 performances as part of the Pride Festival 2005 at Heaven nightclub, The Arches, Villiers Street, WC2, from Friday 17th June - Friday 1st July (no show on Saturdays). The official opening is Monday June 20 at 8.00pm.

Hedwig and The Angry Inch is an mix of award-winning music, stunning visuals and outstanding performances. The story of 'internationally ignored song stylist' Hedwig Schmidt and her search for stardom and love, this is a show for anyone who feels that life gave them an inch when they deserved a mile!

As a sad, lonely girly-boy in East Berlin, Hansel dreams of his glam rock escape. When freedom comes in the form of an American army lieutenant, the "small" sacrifice he has to make to get out over the Berlin Wall seems worth it... so Hansel becomes Hedwig. A year later, when Hedwig faces life as dejected sex-change trailer trash in Junction City, Kansas, she find out what freedom really tastes like, until tragedy strikes in the form of a bus load of deaf orphans... Hedwig tells this amazing life story from the stage on the opening night of her not-exactly sell-out concert tour. Looking and sounding like a cross between Frank 'n' Furter and Farrah Fawcett, this psychotic glam rock diva is taking no prisoners.

David Bedella created the role of Satan/Warm-Up Man in Jerry Springer the Opera for which he won the 2004 Best Actor Laurence Olivier Award, and is currently starring in the BBC 1 hospital drama, Holby City as Carlos Fashola.

On Valentine¹s Day, 1998, Hedwig and the Angry Inch opened Off Broadway to rave reviews. In the summer of 2001, John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask's film adaptation was released to equally glowing reviews. Hedwig was the winner of the Obie Award for Outstanding Off Broadway Musical and won the Sundance Film Festival Audience Prize.
