Hill to Lead Citz Dominic Hill, currently artistic director of Edinbugh's Traverse Theatre and formerly of Dundee Rep, is to takeover as artistic director of Glasgow's Citizens Theatre in October. He replaces Jeremy Raison who took over the running of the theatre in 2003 and left last year.. Murray Buchanan, chairman of the Board, said, "I am thrilled to announce the appointment of Dominic Hill as our new artistic director. He is universally respected by his peers for his artistic ability and vision, his leadership skills and personal qualities. "For more than 60 years, the Citizens has had a reputation for producing vital and exciting theatre. "We look forward to supporting Dominic in delivering an artistic vision that befits that legacy and reflects our position as the major producing house in the West of Scotland." In his interview with the Board, Hill presented a five-year plan for the development of the theatre. "I want," he said, "to draw on the history of the building and what that stage is brilliant at doing theatre that is both epic and intimate, with a dynamic, almost rough quality to it that is both exciting to be part of and to see. "I want the main stage to see classical work, work presented in a way that is innovative and accessible for contemporary audiences. Its all about creating exciting theatre." He added that Citizens is the one of the most distinctive theatre spaces in Scotland but is in need of refurbishment. He hopes the work will begin as soon as he takes charge. Plans are already in place for repairs and upgrading which will cost an extimated £10m.
