Mathew Horne

Horne Collapses on Stage

Actor/comedian Mathew Horne collapsed on stage during a performance of Entertaining Mr Sloane and had to be treated by paramedics called to the theatre in London. The matinee performance, which was 15 minutes into the second half, was cancelled and he was replaced by an understudy for the evening performance.

Horne, 30, who plays Mr Sloane, lay down, rather than collapsed and it was only when co-star Simon Paisley Day announced that something appeared to have gone wrong that anyone realised something was amiss. The lights went up and a 999 call was made. The actor lay motionless only stirring slightly when receiving treatment from the emergency crew.

Fellow actor Imelda Staunton came on to the stage and made an emotional thanks to the audience for their understanding, explaining that she also felt very unwell.

Horne's agent is reported as describing the performer as 'exhausted' and it is not confirmed whether the star of TV's Gavin and Stacy will return to the production which finishes at the Trafalgar Studios on Saturday, April 11.

Members of the audience were invited to contact the theatre box office today to see whether or not they will be offered refunds or tickets for an alternative performance.

Neither he nor his co-star Imelda Staunton, who is also feeling ill, appeared on Thursday night and neither will appear in Friday's show.

Update

Horne's agent said he was suffering from a bug and would decide when to return on a day-by-day basis. He described Horne as "run-down" and said his illness was the result of working "flat out for three months".
