Howard Goodall triple bill opens with the dreaming

September, October and November see month–long runs of three works composed by Howard Goodall at London's Union Theatre.

The season starts with the London professional première of the dreaming based on a Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare. This has music by Howard Goodall with words and lyrics by Charles Hart.

Paul Clarkson will direct a cast which includes Alastair Hill, Joshua Tonks, Richard Brindley, Daisy Tonge, Chris Hancock, Kayleigh McKnight, Michael Burgen, Rachel Flynn, Holly Julier, Simone Murphy, Matthew Jay Ryan, David Breeds, Alex Green and Jordan Ginger

Running from 1 October is Love Story by Stephen Clark with music by Howard Goodall. Sasha Regan will direct this show, based on the Erich Segal novel of the same name.

The final show is Girlfriends based on a book written by Howard Goodall, Richard Curtis and John Retallack.

Howard Goodall said, "I am really thrilled that three of my musicals, spanning the years 1986-2010, are to be produced at the Union Theatre this autumn. I hope people will find the three pieces quite different in scale, style and mood, and that audiences will enjoy the super-intimate setting of this lovely, cosy theatre, and that my ex-chorister's surround-sound vocal polyphony will feel as enveloping as it is inside my head!"

The programme is

  • the dreaming – 3 to 27 September
  • Love Story – 1 to 25 October
  • Girlfriends – 29 to 22 November
