Dateline: 10th June, 2011
New Season in Hull Hull Truck has announced its season from June to December. Ring Around the Humber (June 24 - July 9) will begin the season - a new production featuring four stories, written by four different writers. Director Nick Lane has written one of the pieces, which are all set in Hull but during different generations - including one during The Blitz. Work by local writers Sarah Davies, Morgan Sproxton and Richard Vergette will also feature. A brand new production of Jim Cartwright's The Rise and Fall of Little Voice runs from July 29 to August 20. This play will feature former Emmerdale star Lisa Riley and Philip Hill-Pearson (Shameless and United). Hannah Chissick, a graduate of the University of Hull who went on to become the country's youngest artistic directors while in charge at Harrogate Theatre, will direct. The Glee Club by Richard Cameron will take to Truck's Main Theatre stage from September 8 - October 8, before heading out on national tour. Set in 1962, it tells the story of the Edlington Colliery's six-man Glee Club as they prepare for their gala performance. The Glee Club will be directed by Tessa Walker, who is currently Literary Associate at the National Theatre of Scotland. Hull Tuck will continue its work to develop creative partnerships throughout the country by staging co-productions with nabokov and the Gate Theatre. Young Pretender (September 13 - 17) is a co-commission by Hull Truck and nabokov from young writer EV Crowe and comes direct from the Edinburgh Festival. Then in October, Hull Truck and the Gate Theatre present Yerma (October 19 - 29). This new production will be directed by Natalie Abrahami. The Debt Collectors (November 1 - 12), presented by The John Godber Company and Theatre Royal Wakefield, is a new comedy about credit, castings and cashing in. Godber also directs. Christmas at Hull Truck will once again see two productions staged - one aimed at younger audiences, the other at the young at heart. Writer and director Nick Lane will be at the helm with The Elves and the Shoemaker (December 14 - January 14) and, in the evenings, The Flint Street Nativity by Tim Firth (December 8 - January 14) will take the stage. The play is based on the hit TV comedy starring Jane Horrocks, Stephen Tompkinson, Neil Morrissey and Josie Lawrence.
