Dateline: 7th April, 2006
Illness Delays Two Productions Two West End productions have been delayed by illness this week and have had to cancel previews. First to be affected was Peter Hall's revival of Coward's Hay Fever at the Haymarket, delayed because Judi Dench, who plays Judith Bliss, has flu. All previews this week were cancelled and the play will begin previews on Tuesday 11th. Also in the cast are Peter Bowles, Belinda Lang, Kim Medcalf, Charles Edwards and Dan Stevens and the production runs until 5th August. Due to begin previewing on Wednesday 5th April, the Donmar Warehouse production of Frank McGuinness' version of Racine's Phaedra, starring Clare Higgins, has also been forced to cancel previews and to move its opening night after Paul Nicholls, suffering from a suffering from a severe throat infection, had to withdraw. Previews will now being on Wednesday 13th April and the opening night will be Friday 21st. Also in the cast are Linda Basset, Sean Campion, Michael Feast, Lucy-Anne Holmes, Marcella Plunkett and Janet Whiteside. The production ends on 3rd June and is followed by Derek Jacobi in the revival of John Mortimer's A Voyage Round My Father, which previews from 8th June. Eagle-eyed regular BTG readers will have noticed a distinct lack of reviews by chief London reviewer Philip Fisher this week. He, too, has been felled by the flu bug and has been for the last six days. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
