Imaginate Festival celebrates children's theatre in Edinburgh

Imaginate FestivalThe Bank of Scotland Imaginate Festival of theatre for children and young people returns to Edinburgh in May for its 23rd year.

Fourteen productions from around the world will participate in the Festival at venues right across Edinburgh, with some touring to other regions of Scotland as well.

Scottish contributions to the Festival include Frozen Charlotte productions with Paperbelle (ages 2-5 years), Ailie Cohen Puppet Maker with Cloud Man (ages 4-7 years), Plutot la Vie and Howden Park Centre’s co-production By The Seat of Your Pants (ages 7 years and over), Andy Manley, Rob Evans and macrobert with Mikey and Addie (ages 9 years and over) and Lu Kemp and Oliver Emanuel with Titus (ages 11 years and over).

There will also be performers from Australia (Sally Chance Dance and Windmill Theatre), England (M6 Theatre Company), France (Compagnie Arcosm), Italy (Compagnia TPO), Netherlands (Stella den Haag), Sweden (Teater Pero) and Switzerland (TricksterP).

As well as the regular productions, there will be a Fringe for Families on the last weekend of the Festival in the nooks, crannies and open spaces of the Traverse Café Bar, plus the Wee Night Out will take Andy Cannon and Mull Theatre’s Scota-land to eighteen primary schools across Scotland.

Chief executive of Creative Scotland Andrew Dixon said, "Imaginate is an important fixture in the year-long calendar of festivals in Scotland and it also makes a significant contribution to Scotland's growing reputation as a world leader in children's theatre and performing arts. Giving young children the opportunity to enjoy the arts can only help contribute to a successful future for creativity in Scotland and it's great to see such an inspiring programme for the festival."
