Newcastle’s Live Theatre has announced its programme of in-house and co-productions from September 2018 through to March 2019.

  • 3 – 6 October
    The Six Twenty in association with Live Theatre presents
    Fans
    Devised and created by Melanie Rashbrooke and written by Nina Berry

    A revival. Part gig and part theatre, inspired by real music fan confessions.

  • 18 October – 10 November
    A Live Theatre world première
    Clear White Light
    By Paul Sirett with the songs of Alan Hull (Lindisfarne)
    Directed by Joe Douglas with musical direction by Ray Laidlaw and Billy Mitchell

    Set in an all-male psychiatric unit in St Nicholas Hospital, Gosforth, this is a contemporary retelling of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher set against a background of cuts to the NHS.

    10 Minutes to… Light It Up
    An evening of short plays from new voices.

  • 20 – 24 November
    An Open Clasp and Live Theatre world première
    Don’t Forget the Birds

    The true story of a mother and a daughter. Prison took one of them away. On release, their challenge was find the other—and themselves—again. The mother was one of the original HMP Low Newton collaborators on Key Change.

    Four short plays about all thing Christmas from Live Theatre Associate Artists Tamsin Daisy-Rees, Olivia Hannah, Henry Lawrence and Jamie Morren.

    Set in the North of England in the aftermath of Margaret Thatcher’s death as, in a scruffy minicab office, Mansha offers to buy the business from his lifelong friend Raf, the play lays bare the everyday struggles of a post-industrial British men.
