I Sing! European Premiere Off-Broadway musical i sing! will receive its UK and European premiere at the Union Theatre in Southwark from Wednesday 29th November to Saturday 23rd December starring West End regulars Joanna Ampil and Debbie Kurup alongside Neighbours and Hollyoaks in the City actor Adam-Jon Fiorentino and introducing Declan Harvey and George Miller.
Hailed as one of the best Off-Broadway scores ever written and described as bringing an Avenue Q style attitude to Sondheimesque music, i sing! is the musical equivalent of Sex in the City meets Friends with a twist of Ally McBeal and Will & Grace thrown in for good measure. Centring around the lives of five young New Yorkers confronting their futures, i sing! is an energetic, humorous and poignant snapshot of a lust for life in the city that never sleeps, a story of youthful sensibilities in song.
Having previously played to packed houses and critical acclaim in New York, Chicago and Australia, i sing! receives its UK and European première at the Union Theatre, one of Londons leading independent fringe venues and features five West End performers with a wealth of international credits between them. Joanna Ampil, best known for her role as Kim in Miss Saigon and for playing Fantine and Eponine in Les Misérables, joins the show direct from playing Mimi in the current European tour of Jonathan Larsons Rent. Debbie Kurup, most recently seen as Velma Kelly in the West End production of Chicago, is no stranger to new musical theatre writing from New York, having twice headlined the West Ends popular Notes from New York series. Other roles include Dee Dee in Tonights the Night, Carmen in Fame and Anita in West Side Story.
In contrast, their co-star Adam-Jon Fiorentino is best known for playing Casper in TVs Neighbours and has recently finished filming Hollyoaks in the City as Troy. His theatre credits in his native Australia include playing Tony Manero in Saturday Night Fever (a part he recently reprised in the West End) and roles in Mamma Mia, Grease, Cats and The Boy from Oz. Following i sing!, he will return to the West End as Young Ben in the upcoming gala performance of Follies at the London Palladium. They are joined by Declan Harvey, recipient of the Sunday Times Acting Award at the National Student Drama Festival 2006 and George Miller, whose work includes contemporary musical theatre revues in London and New York, as well as the recent West End production of Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens at The Venue. i sing! has music by Eli Bolin, lyrics by Sam Foreman with book by Eli Bolin, Sam Foreman and Benjamin Salka. Originally directed by Benjamin Salka, this UK and European première production is directed by Thomas Southerland and designed by Wai Yin Kwok. Musical direction is by Magnus Gilljam, musical staging and choreography by Andrew Wright, who is assisted by Holly Hughes. Lighting design is by Matthew Evered and sound by Autograph Sound Recording. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
