Award: Jamie Robertson's acting recognised at Buxton Fringe

Jamie Robertson from Uproot Theatre Company, who performed in War of the Worlds, and Ellie Wade from Curious Grin Productions picked up acting awards at Buxton Fringe 2015.

Curious Grin also took the production award for Around the World in 80 Days. Katharine Armitage picked up the new writing accolade for After Party.

In youth theatre, the production award went to Two Yolks Theatre for The Small Things while Ellie Burke from Buxton-based REC Theatre received a young actor award for The Ash Girl. Buxton Drama League's The Shakespeare Jukebox took the prize for street theatre. Dotdotdot dance won the dance award for the second year with No Frills.

In other areas, The Kagools won the families award, FoolSize Theatre won the Spirit of the Fringe award and Sparkle and Dark's I am Beast picked up the John Beecher award for original, challenging work with high production values.

At the awards ceremony, chair Keith Savage thanked all the Fringe entrants as well as the enthusiastic audiences who attended almost 600 separate performances.

The awards process, he said, was “more of an art than a science” but he explained that the judging panel had acknowledged shows that were “especially imaginative, creative, exciting and stimulating” while trying to avoid the term “best”.
