Anne Archer

Anne Archer will play Fonda in a cast that will also include Christien Anholt, Martin Fisher, Alex Gaumond, Paul Herzberg, Ako Mitchell and Mark Rose in The Trial of Jane Fonda by Terry Jastrow, directed by Joe Harmston, at Park Theatre.

Fonda travelled to North Vietnam in 1972 and was photographed astride an anti-aircraft gun designed to shoot down US planes. In 1988 in Connecticut, filming on a movie co-starring Fonda and Robert De Niro was halted by a demonstration by Vietnam veterans. Fonda called a meeting with the men, the content of which was never divulged.

Playwright Terry Jastrow retraced Fonda's steps and interviewed her guides, veterans and Fonda herself.

Archer, last seen on the London stage as Mrs Robinson in The Graduate in 2001, originated the role of Fonda in this play at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2014.

Alex Gaumond will play Larry Bonk, his first major non-musical role in a play after appearing in the West End in Matilda, We Will Rock You, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Top Hat and Legally Blonde.

Gaumond said, “I am very excited to take on the role of Larry in this fascinating play and to work with such a brilliant cast. If the auditions are anything to go by, the group dynamic on stage will be electric. In the few years since its opening, Park Theatre has quickly established a fantastic reputation for great work, so I am delighted to be performing there this summer.”

Also in the cast are Christien Anholt as Buzzy Banks, Martin Fisher as Reverend John Clarke, Paul Herzberg as Joe Celano, Ako Mitchell as Reggie Wells and Mark Rose as Tommy Lee Cook.

The Trial of Jane Fonda will run at Park Theatre from 13 July to 20 August 2016.
