Joe McElderry is Aladdin in Wolverhampton

Joe McElderry, who won the sixth series of The X Factor in 2009, takes the title role in the 2016 panto Aladdin at Wolverhampton Grand.

He has also been playing Joseph in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat which will visit the Grand in May 2017.

Lisa Riley will take the role of Slave of the Ring in Aladdin. She is best known for playing Mandy Dingle in the ITV soap Emmerdale from 1995 to 2001. She last appeared in a Grand Theatre panto as Fairy Bowbells in the 2000 production of Dick Whittington.

Ian Adams will play Widow Twankey. He wrote and performed in a production of Dick Whittington that was the first panto to be presented inside London Zoo.

Soprano Lucy Kay who was on Britain’s Got Talent will play Princess Jasmine and illusionist Stefan Pejic is evil sorcerer Abanazar.

The Grand’s chief executive Adrian Jackson said, “it’s been very exciting working with the team to ensure we bring the very best Christmas entertainment to the Grand. Our star-studded cast brings both local and national flair to our production which will delight the whole family during the festive season.”

Aladdin runs at the Grand from Saturday 10 December until Sunday 22 January 2017.
